Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Joann & Ryan at Star Meadows Ranch

Joann and Ryan came to Whitefish from Colorado with their closest friends and family to hang out, go skiing, and get married! Their wedding at Star Meadows Ranch was the perfect match for their laid-back attitude full of dogs—they've got three—no attendants, unicorn socks, corn hole and hockey set up in the pavilion, a roaring fire, and fireworks to close out the evening.

They also had the most unique unity ceremony I've ever witnessed which involved them both pouring un-aged whiskey into a custom aging barrel to age over time and be enjoyed at a later date.

Whitefish Montana Family Photographer, The Ahmads

I'd hate to speak for other photographers, but for this particular photographer, repeat business is one of the best feelings ever. I met the Ahmad family this past fall when they were paying a visit to Northwest Montana, and I was extremely stoked to get a text from them again this winter asking if I was available for some portraits this February as they were here for some powder turns at Whitefish Mountain Resort.

While it was certainly chilly we did manage to sneak in before an arctic system moved in and temperatures plunged below zero. We were also blessed with the most perfect light snowfall, something I've been wanting to have for a portrait session for the last three years but had never materialized until now!

Whitefish Real Estate Photography, Iron Horse Custom Home

I recently had the opportunity to branch out a bit from my usual "people-in-the-frame" oriented work to document a custom home in the Iron Horse subdivision here in Whitefish. The real estate market in the Flathead Valley is out-of-control right now and reminds me a lot of the market in Austin when we left that area three years ago. The difference being the supply is far less than the demand. As such, this home was sold before it was ever finished. With that being the case the real estate agent never needed to photograph the house for a listing, but the builder still wanted a record of all the things they did in this particular house. It was really fun to try out some things I don't normally do. Thinks like doing 95% of the shoot on a tripod, and using my criminally underutilized drone for some exterior photos.

As you'll see, the way the house was situated with the back providing a beautiful view of Whitefish Lake. A winter sunset just bathes the living, dining, and kitchen area in the most beautiful golden light. Truly jaw dropping.

Whitefish Family Photographer, The Ahmad Family

I was fortunate to spend this chilly morning with the Ahmad family at Depot Park and Whitefish City Beach documenting their late-summer family getaway to Northwest Montana. Little A. wasn't super comfortable in front of the camera for a lot of the session, but once she saw the water at City Beach and got to take a little walk with her brother and grandmother she perked right up and started grinning from ear-to-ear. They mentioned that they are planning a potential permanent move to Montana, and I can't wait to welcome them if they're able to make that happen.

Whitefish Portrait Photographer, Windy & James

Did you know that you don't have to be recently engaged in order to get some portraits taken in a beautiful place? It's true! And Windy & James are here to prove it. They came all the way from a "small-town" in Texas—which just happens to be the same small-town my wife grew up in—to spend some time in Whitefish and wanted to commemorate their vacation with just the two of them. They were an absolute delight to work with as briefly strolled through downtown Whitefish and spoke of our favorite places in the Texas Hill Country.

Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Norman & Tyler

I was so fortunate to be included in this wedding at the summit of Whitefish Mountain Resort. Norman & Tyler had a small wedding with around 70 of their closest friends and family who experienced a gorgeous day where clouds and rain stayed in the forecast the day prior and returned the day after. As you can see that was absolutely not the case during the ceremony. Instead of traditional formal wear, they wore traditional philippine barongs which provided a delightful pop of color into the proceedings and made it difficult to deliver too many black and white photos because they looked so great.

Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Kathryn & Justin, The Lodge at Whitefish Lake

When I first met Kathryn for coffee at Coffee Traders to discuss the possibility of photographing her and Justin's wedding I had to really try to contain my excitement. While I wasn't able to meet Justin ahead of time, here was an awesome couple—both of whom are pilots—and the plan was for Kathryn to arrive at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake in a floatplane. How cool is that?! Seriously, in my mind, I was almost thinking "Can I pay you to photograph your wedding? Because this is something I have to do."

Thankfully for my own personal livelihood, it didn't come to that and last month, despite gusty winds threatening to scrap the most epic bride's entrance ever, the evening ultimately went off without a hitch. Congratulations to Kathyrn & Justin, thank you so much for including me in your special day, I had a blast with everyone.

Shout out to the other vendors who made this such a night to remember: Venue & Catering: The Lodge at Whitefish Lake; DJ: Sidecar Audio; and my associate photographer Leah Lamberson Photography.

Whitefish Family Photographer, The Neufeld’s

You never know where a potential client/friend opportunity may present itself. I met Jake while we were waiting to pick up our daughters from kindergarten and I noticed his St. Louis Cardinals hat. I had to say something because it was the first such hat I'd seen in Whitefish. I mentioned I was a photographer, and he mentioned his family had been looking to get some new family portraits done. And the rest, as they say, is history!
