Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Sarah & Dominic at Best Western Plus Flathead Lake

It was so great to see Sarah and Dominic again during the winter holiday season after their engagement session this past summer and get to meet their friends and family. They really wanted to make it a welcoming affair and had tons of great Christmas touches like a hot cocoa bar, Christmas trees, mil and cookies for dessert, and as you'll see in the image above a first kiss under the mistletoe.

Kalispell Engagement Photographer, Sarah & Dom

This was a really special engagement session for me. While they wanted to naturally get photos of just the two of them for their engagement, it was also important to Sarah and Dom to include Sarah's son in the portrait session as well, and he made it so fun. It was an unseasonably hot day here in Northwest Montana, even for July, but he was a real trooper, and was super happy to cooperate, especially after he got to play art director for some of the photos. We met up at Lone Pine State Park and then headed over to Woodland Park closer to downtown Kalispell.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Cristine & Josh at Diamond B Weddings

You may recognize Cristine and Josh from this post a while back featuring a styled wedding session at Star Meadows Ranch. At the time they were engaged, but a few months later I was contacted by Cristine to check my availability for their actual wedding at Diamond B Weddings in Kalispell and if I would be interested in being their photographer. "Of course!" I remember exclaiming and the rest they say is history. Cristine and Josh were so much fun, and so kind, it was great to work with them—and Katie from Big Day Celebrations—again as they shared their actual wedding vows instead of just pretending to.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Katie & Beau at Diamond B Weddings

I am absolutely not trying to shame anyone, but did you know that grooms can do some of the heavy lifting of planning a wedding in addition to the bride? Beau and Katie's wedding was a great example of that. I dealt primarily with Beau throughout the booking process via email, phone, and text. He asked all kinds of great questions, and I couldn't wait to hang out with them on their wedding day. Even with all of those great conversations, I couldn't have possibly been prepared for how kind all of their friends and family were.

From helping wrangle a very large collection of family and extended family for formals to a delightful dance party to close out the night, we were made to feel like part of the family the whole evening. Also, check out one of my favorite "first look" reactions of all time. Ladies, find you a man who reacts like this when he sees you in your wedding dress.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Kelly & Adam

This was wedding number three for Kelly and Adam, and boy were they ready to celebrate. Ironically, it was the first wedding they actually began planning, but then things began to happen. Little things, like global pandemics! So they first ended up with a civil ceremony at a courthouse in California. Then came the reception in Taiwan so some of Kelly's family that wouldn't be traveling to the U.S. for the festivities could share in the joy. Then—finally!—came the wedding and reception at Adam's dad's house here in the Flathead Valley. It was a fun and much-needed celebration—as with so many weddings originally planned for 2020—after postponements and uncertainty.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Sofiya & Collin at Diamond B

I initially met Sofiya and Collin this past winter for their engagement session over in West Glacier and Glacier National Park. Despite the frigid temperatures and numb hands we had a great time and captured some really beautiful moments.

After that session, it was of course only a matter of time before their actual wedding day arrived. And in typical Montana fashion, the weather played a role in the proceedings. Of course, it is to be expected that a June wedding will be warmer than a winter engagement session. What isn't as expected is a mid-June in Montana in the mid-90s temperature-wise. They opted for a ceremony inside the smaller barn at Diamond B Weddings instead of the riverside ceremony spot which I think all involved agreed was the right decision. It kept everyone in the shade and provided just the right amount of intimacy for their small wedding.

Kalispell Family Photographer, The Brown Family

I probably sound like a broken record, but one of the perks of being a photographer in an area that is such a destination for so many people is I get to meet and hang out with people from all over the country. The Brown family contacted me in hopes of getting some photos to document their trip that took them literally all over the western half of Montana, and culminated in a visit to the Flathead Valley. They made the trip from Mississippi, which was funny because it was the day after Shona & Bradley's wedding, and they live in Mississippi. It's as the song from the Disney ride says, "it's a small world after all."

Whitefish Wedding Photographer, Shona & Bradley

Like just about everyone in the wedding business this year, my summer bookings were all made prior to the worldwide pandemic created by COVID-19. Naturally, this placed a lot of wedding plans up in the air, and while Shona and Bradley were traveling from out-of-state, their plans were always for a more intimate wedding in the glorious outdoors that can be found at Lone Pine State Park and the beautiful grounds of Conrad Mansion in Kalispell. Also, any wedding where a friendly game of bocce ball breaks out is a successful wedding in my book. Congratulations to Shona & Bradley, thank you so much for including me in the festivities.

Kalispell Family Photographer, the Radabahs

There are few things more satisfying to a photographer when their clients refer friends and family to you. One thing that comes awfully close though is when a fellow photographer refers their past clients to you in an emergency. The amount of trust involved in such an act is something I take extremely seriously, so when my friend Kiralee texted me after being stricken with the flu to see if I was available to handle some family portraits for Sam and her family when they weren't able to reschedule I was extremely humbled and glad I was able to help her out. On top of that, Sam and her family were a hoot, and it was such a pleasure working with them for some late fall photos.

Kalispell Wedding Photographer, Jaimee & Gavin at Diamond B Weddings

I don't think I could've asked for a better couple to share a wedding with for my first "Montana Wedding" than Jaimee and Gavin. From our first correspondence to their wedding day, they couldn't have been sweeter, or more welcoming. It was soon very clear myself and the rest of the vendors were going to be treated as if we were guests of the wedding, so the initial rain that threatened to put a damper on the evening quickly became a distant memory once it stopped, giving way to a beautiful ceremony and one breathtaking sunset to close out the night. Congratulations Jaimee and Gavin, and thank you so much for including me in the evening!
